Workshop: Connection is Key
Workshop: Connection is Key
Workshop: Connection is Key
Saturday, May 31th 2-5pm
Instructor: John Thompson
Improv is perhaps the most social art form, yet people often say they’re getting in their head
about it.
In this workshop, we’re going to get out of our heads and into the scene by connecting
with our partners, the environments, and the situations we get ourselves into. We’re going to
learn techniques and approaches that will help us get in agreement with our teammates quickly
on what the scene’s about and deepen our character work as we heighten and explore. All of
this while bonding with folks in the theater that you might not play with often!
Prerequisite: Level 1 of HIT curriculum
John Thompson
John Thompson’s a Philadelphia-based teacher and performer who has been studying, performing, and teaching improv since 2015. He began at the HIT performing with teams like BEEF, The Fourest, and Baby, and later taught Level 1 and 2.
He’s received invaluable education from The Second City, UCB, WGIS, and The BIG under the tutelage of incredible improvisers like Will Hines, Terry Withers, Molly Thomas, Jess Morgan, and Brandon Gardner. He currently plays with indie team Drums Drums Drums with HIT alums Harrison Merkt and Chris Packard as well as the indie team Tchotchke.
His main focus in improv is creating a playful environment to considerately and carefully explore the infinite permutations of the human condition. He loves throwing bowls on the pottery wheel, sharing pizza with friends, slipping a screen for an easy lay-up, and helping people feel more confident about their improv.
